Authorities have launched a search for a 36-year-old college student and Army veteran who vanished just before she was to be recognized at an appreciation dinner over the weekend.

Police are characterizing the disappearance of Maribel Manriquez Ramos as suspicious.

Ramos is a former Army sergeant who served in South Korea and Iraq.

She was scheduled to be recognized at a veterans appreciation dinner, but never showed up.

Ramos was just weeks from graduating from Cal State Fullerton with a major in criminal justice. She was described at the university as a top student.

She was last seen paying her rent at her apartment in Orange last Thursday around 8:30 p.m., according to authorities and friends. Her car was found parked in front of the complex, but her keys, wallet and cellphone were missing.

KING GEORGE, VA (WUSA) - U.S. Senator from Virginia is demanding answers after another medical mix-up at Walter Reed Military Medical Center.

Mark Warner wants to know why a Virginia woman was sent home with a powerful and potentially deadly heart drug, instead of the vitamin shots she was supposed to get.

Christiane Wiggins was shaken when her son opened the package of medicine dispensed from a Walter Reed clinic at Dahlgren Navy Base.

"My brain went, I was sick to my stomach," she said.

"It was labeled B-12 on the bag, labeled as B-12 on the package insert, on the printed label on the bottle," said her son, Chris Wiggins.

Paralyzed Marine gets new way to heal

Injured Marine gets second chance exercising his passion

(CBS News) WOODBRIDGE, N.J. - When America's war veterans come home, many try to pick up their lives where they left off. That can be a big challenge. One Marine corporal had the will to do the heavy lifting -- he just needed someone to show him the way.

Josh Himan is pumping iron. He's done it since he was a teenager, and by the time he became a Marine, it showed.

Then his Humvee hit a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

"I was ejected from the vehicle and sustained multiple spinal cord injuries," recalled Himan.

He went from the peak of your physical powers to being paralyzed. Himan was 25 at the time.

"There's a lot of times where you know, you think, 'Why didn't I just die?' But I always had love and support, and that's what brought me through."

Until Tyler Hobson, a household name in strength training, brought in the kind of a specially designed weight machine he usually builds for NFL players.

Marines warned over what they post but not what they think

Some may think this disgraceful Facebook page was rightly taken down but as the heads issued warning over what they post, the factor they did not address was that the thinking was already there. What good does it do to watch what they post when they have not changed the way they think?

Until the military treats sexual assaults and attacks like crimes, hold the individuals accountable and charge them with committing crimes, nothing will really change.

WASHINGTON — After a congresswoman sent a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to alert him to derogatory Facebook pages — including one that uses as its profile photo a shot of two female Marines with the caption “Coming soon to a unit near you, Combat Action Mattress” — the Marine Corps is warning Marines to watch what they post online.

“Marines must use their best judgment at all times and avoid inappropriate behavior that could bring discredit upon themselves, their unit and the Marine Corps,” Capt. Eric Flanagan, a Marine spokesman, said in a written statement. “This includes posting any defamatory, libelous, abusive, threatening, racially or ethnically hateful or otherwise offensive of illegal content.”

Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., first learned about the pages on Tuesday from a former Marine. Wednesday, she sent a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Commandant Gen. James Amos and DOD Principal Deputy Inspector General Lynne Halbrooks to bring their attention to the page, “F’N Wook.”

Politics turning society sour

Most Americans have been fed up with the political games and bickering in this country because most Americans just want to do the right thing. That was evident when most Americans including members of the NRA wanted "well regulated" gun control so that irresponsible people and criminals could not just get what they wanted, when they wanted and didn't have to follow the same rules everyone was willing to live by.

What did Congress do? They backed down to the heads of the NRA instead of sicking up for the majority of the people they took an oath to serve. Pretty disgusting when you think about the children shot lately when they got their hands on their parents guns. Not only were they irresponsible gun owners, they were not very responsible adults.

This is the latest one.

The NRA heads say buy more guns. Do they ever have an answer for any of this? No and the rest of us are disgusted.

We are sick and tired of the talk radio rants on both sides. As Jon Stewart has suddenly discovered there is a problem with veterans getting the care they need from the VA he ignores what happened in the years before. Maybe it would have been good to take a look back at what was going on with the VA when troops were sent into Afghanistan and then to Iraq when there was already a backlog of claims. And then we have what Rush Limbaugh has been doing all these years that seems to have finally caught up with him.

The battle between Rush Limbaugh and the Cumulus radio network continued on Wednesday.

The two camps have been trading accusations for days, ever since anonymous Limbaugh backers told the New York Daily News that the host was thinking of abandoning the network due to CEO Lew Dickey's repeated assertions that his controversial comments were hurting ad sales.

But now it has gone so far that an Iraq veteran has been uninvited from a Memorial Day event.
Teaneck Re-invites Iraq War Veteran to Speak at Memorial Day After Criticism
Teaneck Marine Corps veteran says he is "honored" to speak after officials pulled his Memorial Day invitation.
By Noah Cohen

The Teaneck Township Council reversed course and voted Tuesday to extend an invitation to an Iraq War veteran who was disinvited last month from speaking at the town’s Memorial Day ceremony after criticizing the governing body.

The 5-0 vote came following a packed public meeting where a string of residents and veterans lambasted the council for the decision to rescind the speaking invite first issued by the town’s Patriotic Observance Advisory Board to Jason Castle, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Teaneck resident. Township Manager William Broughton said at an April 23 council meeting that he nixed the invite because of Castle’s “negative interactions” with the town council, but insisted the decision was not politically motivated.

If you only listen to the media, you'd think everyone was on one side or the other but if you watch what is happening when they do their reports, you understand that most people are for each other and not against them.

Look at what happened in Boston as total strangers risked their lives to help the wounded. Look what happened when the three young women were rescued from the house of hell. When tragedy strikes, we come together and that, that is what most Americans do.
