The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce hosted the 20th annual Living with Grief program this week, presenting information to local veterans, medical providers and caregivers.

“It’s for community education and so people can understand the different issues surrounding the end of life,” said Joanne Ciampi, the hospice volunteer coordinator for Continuum Home Care and Hospice. “Each year the hospice has a different topic discussed, and this year its veterans. That’s important because military experience shapes their lives and affects how they approach healthcare and end of life matters.”

Wednesday’s event, which was sponsored by the Hospice Foundation of America, featured an informational DVD of panelists who discussed the military mindset, special needs in treating veterans at the end of life, ritual and bereavement care and forming collaborative partnerships to better serve veterans.

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — USS George Washington sailors have memorialized a shipmate who died after defending his girlfriend from an attacker while on leave in Florida.

Seaman Apprentice Matthew Snow, an aviation structural mechanic, was remembered by sailors at the aircraft carrier’s forecastle Thursday as a friend and a competent professional, according to a ship statement.

Commanding officer Capt. G.J. Fenton said he would remember Snow as a hard worker and devoted shipmate.

“While Airman Snow passed away at a very young age, his valiant efforts may have very well saved the life of his girlfriend,” according to a ship statement.

Dad hits gator in head to save son

Joey Welch, Florida Child, Survives Gator Attack
(VIDEO)
Posted: 04/21/2013 A father and son canoe trip took a terrifying turn on Friday when the 6-year-old fell into the water and into the jaws of an eight-foot gator at the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach, FL reports Local 10.

"I heard these blood-curdling screams and I saw this gator that had his right arm in his jaw and I just freaked," father Joseph Welch told the news station. Watch the video above.

"He just swam to me and clamped my arm. He didn't wait for a second," six-year-old Joey said.

Dad then jumped into the water to rescue his son.

"I didn't want to play tug-of-war with the alligator and get his arm ripped off," he told WSVN 7. "So I started punching the alligator on top of the head as hard as I could."

Comprehensive Soldier Fitness not reviewed before 1 million troops trained

American Journal of Preventive Medicine has a study up on Comprehensive Soldier Fitness. Not sure what they found yet since I am not a member. This release in itself tells a very troubling finding in itself. If I could figure it out, why didn't they a long time ago?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder:
Review of the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program

Since the start of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. military has implemented several population-based initiatives to enhance psychological resilience and prevent psychological morbidity in troops.

The largest of these initiatives is the Army's Comprehensive Soldier Fitness (CSF) program, which has been disseminated to more than 1 million soldiers.

However, to date, CSF has not been independently and objectively reviewed, and the degree to which it successfully promotes adaptive outcomes and prevents the development of deployment-related mental health disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is uncertain. This paper critically evaluates the theoretic foundation for and evidence supporting the use of CSF.
No telling if they find it should not have been done but if they don't, then they need to explain the rise in suicides, attempted suicides and PTSD cases.

Gee, do you think they maybe should have figured out if it would work or not before they did it to the troops?

Melbourne Wall Escort

This morning I arrived for the Melbourne Wall Escort late for the first time in years. I didn't get a chance to get the bikes coming in so I am very sorry to the people I always film. I did manage to get some footage of the Orlando Nam Knights riding back toward Orlando and at that Lone Cabbage. As always the fried gator was wonderful!

Here are a couple of pictures to hold you over until I get the footage edited. Working on that right now.
