TAMPA --
The former Marine accused of shooting a Hillsborough County deputy three times Friday night had post-traumatic stress disorder upon his return from Iraq, his uncle said today.
"I know he had been going to the VA hospital quite a bit, and they'd been putting him off, putting him off," Bob Buendia said of his nephew, 24-year-old Matthew Lane Buendia of Carrollwood. "He'd been getting frustrated."
Deputy Lyonelle De Veaux, 35, was shot twice in the leg and once in the shoulder while responding to a domestic call at 10:22 p.m. at Matthew Buendia's apartment complex.
De Veaux, a five-year sheriff's office veteran who works in the department's District 3, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. She was in good condition and alert late Saturday, spending time with her family at the hospital, sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said.
"Right now we believe she is doing well," Sheriff David Gee said during a 4 a.m. press conference.

JUSTIN — Gunshots disturbed the quiet of this little town in southwestern Denton County early Thursday. Before calm was restored, one man was dead and three were wounded — one of them a Justin police officer.
Police and paramedics arrived shortly before 9 a.m. at the 500 block of Fourth Street in response to two calls.
The first call, at 8:43 a.m., was from the family of a man who was threatening suicide, according to reports. Seven minutes later, while Officer Kevin James was still on his way, another call came from the house saying the suicidal man had fired a shotgun at his father and grandfather.
A shot was fired at James while he was in the front yard, so he returned fire. One of the men in the house, Brodie Stewart, 29, was struck and was declared dead on arrival at a Denton hospital.
Jody Gonzalez, the county’s emergency response director, said that the Justin officer was struck in the left forearm and upper arm with pellets from the shotgun. He was in stable condition Thursday afternoon, officials said.
“Justin Chief Bill Brooks went to the officer’s house and picked up his wife and daughter and took them to the hospital,” Gonzalez said. “He is undergoing surgery.”
The others injured were Brodie Stewart’s father, Bobby Stewart, and his grandfather, Bud Stewart. They were taken by air ambulance to different Dallas-Fort Worth area hospitals, Gonzalez said. Bobby Stewart was struck in the abdomen by a shotgun blast and Bud Stewart was struck in the arm. Both are listed in stable condition, the emergency manager said.
Because the shooting involved a police officer, the Texas Rangers will investigate, he said.

Death of Marine Col. James Sabow figured heavily in John Patrick Bedell's anger and frustration
Marine Col. James Sabow's Family on Pentagon Shooter: This Guy was a Nut
Posted by Carlin DeGuerin Miller
WASHINGTON (CBS) The death of Marine Col. James Sabow figured heavily in John Patrick Bedell's anger and frustration with the United States government, according to internet posts linked to Bedell.
On Thursday, Bedell allegedly opened fire on Pentagon police, wounding two and getting himself killed in the process. Soon after, Internet posts and Youtube videos linked to Bedell surfaced. In them he says that he wanted to see "justice served in the death Col. James Sabow," and saw getting to the truth about Sabow's death as a major step forward in getting to the "truth of events such as the September 11 demolitions."
Col. James Sabow was found by his wife on Jan. 22, 1991 in the backyard of his quarters at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, Calif., south of Los Angeles. The Orange County Coroner ruled the death a suicide. His family believes he was murdered, according to Col. Sabow's brother, Dr. David Sabow.
Dr. Sabow told Crimesider on Friday that he believes his brother was killed by the military when he found out that the military was trading guns for drugs in Central America and threatened to blow the whistle.

WASHINGTON — A gunman coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and opened fire at the teeming subway entrance to the Pentagon complex Thursday evening, wounding two police officers before being shot and critically wounded, officials said.
The two officers suffered grazing wounds that were not life-threatening and were being treated in hospital, said Richard Keevill, chief of Pentagon police.
The suspect, believed to be a U.S. citizen, walked up to a security checkpoint at the Pentagon in an apparent attempt to get inside the massively fortified Defense Department headquarters, at about 6:40 p.m. “He just reached in his pocket, pulled out a gun and started shooting,” Keevill said. “He walked up very cool. He had no real emotion on his face.” The Pentagon officers returned fire with semiautomatic weapons.
Of the suspect, the chief said, “His injury is pretty critical.”
