STAMFORD - Wachovia Securities violated federal law when it belatedly offered a returning Air Force veteran and Stamford native a reduced version of his job, a federal jury in New Haven ruled Tuesday.
Judge Janet Arterton must decide whether Michael Serricchio, 35, who served for two years in Massachusetts and Saudi Arabia, is eligible for back pay, damages or reinstatement to his position as a financial adviser, said David Golub, an attorney is representing Serricchio in U.S. District Court.
"It's not about me," Serricchio said. "A lot of people won't join the service anymore, and you will get even more people who won't join if their jobs aren't protected."
Serricchio was in the first wave of National Guard and reservists activated shortly after Sept. 11, 2001.
Many of the veterans are returning to the business world now, Golub said.
