ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police have identified the officer who was gunned down while on duty Monday morning.

Chief John Mina identified the slain officer as Master Sgt. Debra Clayton, a 17-year-veteran of the department.

Clayton was shot and killed in the line of duty near a Walmart in Orlando.

Police Chief John Mina said the suspect, Markieth Loyd, 41, also is also wanted in the slaying of a pregnant woman.

Colleagues of Clayton said she was married and a mother of two. She was being remembered Monday as a person who always had a smile on her face and often took time out of her day to interact with the community.

A sheriff's deputy later was killed in a crash with a 78-year-old driver.

Debra Clayton, the 17-year Orlando police officer killed Monday morning, was hailed as a hero by Chief John Mina.

"She will be deeply missed," Mina said

Clayton, 42, was married and the mother of an adult son who is in college, according to Mina. She was assigned to dayshift patrol and will be "missed beyond words."

"She always had a smile [and] high five for every kid she came across," the department tweeted.

Hours after the killing, friends gathered in front of her home on a tree-lined street in Ocoee, where neighbors say they shared power washers and tools with each other.

Teresa Sokolovic, a teacher at St. Cloud High School, met Clayton in December 2015 at a charity event at Camping World Stadium.

Click OrlandoORLANDO, Fla. - An Orange County Sheriff's Office deputy was struck and killed Monday morning during a search for a man who is accused of killing an Orlando police officer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The deputy, identified around 5 p.m. Monday as Deputy First Class Norman Lewis, was on a motorcycle when a van hit him. Lewis, 35, was hired at the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2005. He's a University of Central Florida alumnus and played football for the Knights, deputies said.

The suspect's ex-girlfriend called 911 and told officers that the suspect was going out with the intention of hurting officers.

DANVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — A Danville police officer was shot and killed overnight in Knox County.

According to the Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer, Officer Thomas Cottrell was killed in the line of duty late Sunday night.

Sheriff Shaffer said around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, the Knox County dispatch center received a call stating that police officers in Danville were in danger. The woman told dispatchers that her ex-boyfriend, Herschel Ray Jones had left with weapons and was looking to kill an officer.

Dispatchers then tried to contact the Danville officer on duty, but were unsuccessful. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office then searched the village.

In Memphis, friends are remembering a man who not only made the ultimate sacrifice Saturday night but who spent his entire life serving and protecting others.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “He was a great guy. He really was.”

This is how Mike Maharrey remembers his friend Sean Bolton.

People all across the country are rallying around the Memphis Police Department and Officer Bolton’s family. Condolences are coming from law enforcement officers from Los Angeles to New York, and even the White House has reached out.

Officer Bolton joined the Memphis Police Department in October 2010. Before that, he served as a Marine in Iraq.

The veteran was killed in his own community over less than 2 grams of marijuana, something many in the community are struggling to come to grips with.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Memphis Police Officer Sean Bolton, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop Saturday night.

Visitation for Officer Sean Bolton will be held on Wednesday, August 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Hope Church, located at 8500 Walnut Grove Road.

Bolton’s funeral will be Thursday, August 6 at 11 a.m. at Bellevue Baptist Church, located at 2000 Appling Road.

The Memphis Police Association is asking the public to donate to the “Sean Bolton Fund” at any SunTrust bank. All of the proceeds will go to Bolton’s family.

BELL COUNTY (July 22, 2013)—An increase in police standoffs in Bell County is the catalyst for an effort to create a crisis intervention team that would deal with suspects with possible mental issues.

"We are looking at a possible grant working with MHMR to create a crisis intervention team here in the county which would entail a sergeant and four or five trained deputies that deal with mental cases," Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange said Monday.

At least five standoffs this year have happened in Killeen, and on July 14, one ended with the shooting death of police Officer Robert "Bobby" Hornsby, 32.

Fort Hood Pfc. Dustin Billy Cole was shot and killed after he opened fire with an AK47 on Hornsby and Officer Juan E. Obregon, Jr., who was wounded.

The two SWAT team members had responded to a standoff involving Cole at a Killeen apartment complex.

"You have to learn how to control your fear but enhance your caution and this brings it all back to reality that we're all out there trying to do the best job we can and bad things can happen to officers, this is just one of those tragic situations and I knew the family personally and again my prayers just go out to the family; it's tough, it's tough for the whole community," Lange said.

(CNN) -- Hours after the arrest of a suspect, thousands of friends, family and fellow officers gathered Saturday to pay tribute to two slain Florida policemen.

An emotional funeral unfolded inside a Tampa church as suspect Dontae Morris, arrested on Friday, appeared in court for the first time. He was denied bond, CNN affiliate Bay News 9 reported, and is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.

Morris surrendered after a third party tipped off police, said Police Chief Jane Castor. Police also arrested 22-year-old Cortnee Brantly, the woman believed to have been driving the car at the time of the shooting, Castor said.

The arrests came after a massive manhunt and were a relief, Castor said. They meant the department would be able to provide officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis with the honorable tribute they deserve, Castor said.

"This has brought us a sense of closure, and I pray the arrest brings a level of peace to the families of the officers," she said.

Lakewood, Washington (CNN) -- Four police officers were fatally shot Sunday in what police said was an ambush in a coffee shop near Tacoma, Washington.

The officers were sitting in the coffee shop in Lakewood, Washington, before the start of their shifts, reading on their computers, when the shooting occurred, said Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer. He told reporters that authorities believe the officers were meeting and going over cases or doing paperwork.

"This was a targeted, selected ambush," Troyer told reporters. He said a gunman came inside, opened fire and shot all four officers. Two baristas and other customers inside the shop were unharmed -- "just the law enforcement officers were targeted."

Authorities know the identity of the four fallen officers, and were in the process of notifying family members and their departments, he said. He would not say what agencies the officers were from, but said, "they're all from this area."
