Tribute to First Responders - Official Music Video by Kevin Davison

KENTVILLE - Kevin Davison’s gripping music video offering a glimpse into the harrowing jobs of first responders has earned the local country crooner his first ECMA win.

Davison was nearly in a state of disbelief as he walked up to the stage at the East Coast Music Awards ceremony in Halifax May 6 to collect the hardware reserved for Video of the Year winner. “I was totally shocked,” he said in a brief phone interview May 7.

“I literally didn’t even have anything written down.”

A paramedic and volunteer firefighter hailing from Kentville, Davison was nominated for the video for When Those Sirens Are Gone – an anthem for first responders that has been heard throughout the world.

The video, directed by David Pichette, earned Davison a nomination in a category contested by some of the best in the business: Heather Rankin, Ria Mae, Rose Cousins and Wordburglar.

An Iraq veteran was having a super sweet moment with his girlfriend during a John Michael Montgomery song and he made it even more special when he popped the question!

You may need a tissue for this story. Wylie Wheeler is an Iraq War veteran who will be tying the knot soon. Recently, Wheeler and his girlfriend, Brooke, went to a bar in Jacksonville, Fla., according to Country Music Nation.

While the adorable couple were at the bar, the DJ played a song clearly familiar to both parties — JMM’s ‘I Can Love You Like That.’

That’s when Wheeler took his girlfriend to the dance floor so they could dance to the sweet love song.

Wheeler, who is still serving in the military, is clearly a country fan and loves the song.

Country music star Tracy Lawrence is playing a free show at Hood Stadium on Thursday night as part of the Ben Hogan Foundation’s two-day appreciation event for military families.

The multiplatinum, award-winning recording artist has had 22 songs on the Billboard top 10 charts, 18 No. 1 singles and sold more than 13 million albums. Lawrence is best known for songs “Paint Me A Birmingham,” “Time Marches On,” “Alibis,” and “Find Out Who Your Friends Are.”

“I love the positive feel I get from military folks,” Lawrence said during a phone interview from his home in Nashville, Tenn. “They sacrifice a whole lot for us and it’s important for us to show we appreciate what they do and the sacrifice they make. I’m gone for weeks at a time periodically and that’s nothing compared to these folks who are gone for a year or two ... and to be in harm’s way at the same time. I have a lot of respect for them.”

This will be the first outside entertainer to host a show at the new venue.
