WASHINGTON — President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday to provide more benefits to service members transitioning from the military to civilian life in an effort to decrease veteran suicides.
Veterans who have recently left the military are between two and three times more likely to commit suicide than active duty service members, and nearly 20% of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.
Here are the facts!
- Vietnam War: About 15 out of every 100 Vietnam Veterans (or 15%) were currently diagnosed with PTSD at the time of the most recent study in the late 1980s, the National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS). It is estimated that about 30 out of every 100 (or 30%) of Vietnam Veterans have had PTSD in their lifetime.
The numbers have not changed enough to indicated that there has been any improvement for all the funding, bills, attention and folks running around the country raising awareness!
When the hell is someone going to make sure the people in charge actually prove they pay any attention to any of this?
Where the hell is the press when older veterans are being treated like they should have died already?
If Vietnam veterans didn't fight for all the research and funding, no one would be doing anything but suffering in silence the way all the other generations did.
The press doesn't care because they figure the older veterans are not on social media, so no one else cares.
How many more have to die because this country finds nothing wrong with creating a sub-class of veterans?
