Once the disabled veteran realized they were being robbed, he took action. He shot the suspect twice, once in the stomach and once in the back. The suspect fell right in the front yard, and that's where Mr. Medina held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

A couple came face to face with a nightmare when they pulled up to their Westside home Wednesday evening. They were confronted by a gunman that ordered them to hand over their wallets, but one of the victims quickly turned the tables. The 69-year-old Vietnam veteran has a license to carry, and when guns on both sides were drawn he shot first.

"He knew within seconds that it was a life and death situation," the homeowner's daughter Kristine Medina said.

Mr. and Mrs. Medina were coming home to the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos just before 9 p.m. when they encountered an armed robbery suspect in their own driveway.

"My dad can't really hear, pretty hard of hearing, so apparently the guy asked him to give him his wallet. And it took him a few times of repeating, and my mom finally heard. And by then my dad realized that he was being held at gunpoint," Medina said.
