A former female soldier suffering post-traumatic stress disorder is believed to have killed herself 18 months after leaving the Army.

Mother-of-one Kate Fell-Crook, 35, who had 15 years of ‘exemplary’ service, is understood to have hanged herself.

Miss Fell-Crook, from Denbighshire, North Wales, is thought to be the first female British veteran suffering PTSD to take her own life.

She had set up an online petition begging for help, and in June she posted on Facebook: ‘When the world says give up, hope whispers try one more time.’

Her death on Sunday came as charities said there has been a rise in female soldiers seeking help for mental health conditions.

Her family and friends, who described her as a ‘brilliant mother’ to her 11-year-old daughter, said last night that they were ‘devastated’.
