Plymouth war hero backs report calling for change in way NHS treats wounded soldiers

A PLYMOUTH war hero has backed a new report calling for a major overhaul of how Britain's health services deal with wounded soldiers.

Triple amputee Mark Ormrod was injured by an IED in Afghanistan in 2007 while serving with the Royal Marines.

Since returning home he says the standard of care he has received has led to him questioning whether the sacrifice he made for his country was worth it.

So he is backing The White Report which found failings across the NHS when it came to treating and caring for people who have suffered terrible injuries in combat.

Mark, who lives in Plymouth with his wife and two children, said: “Ever since leaving the military I have had to beg, borrow and steal what I could to get the treatment that I needed to live the high activity life that I enjoy."

The 31-year-old continued: “I still continue to beg, borrow and steal to get the care and equipment that I need, it is a source of extreme stress and anxiety for me, my wife and my children, who all depend on me.”

“Having to beg charities for money hurts my pride and makes me feel that my sacrifice for this country wasn’t worthwhile, to have to go through this after having given so much is painful and is actually more a cause of distress than the actual injuries themselves.”
