Mayor Dyer, volunteers start effort to get homeless veterans off the street

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced he is joining hundreds of volunteers in an effort to get homeless veterans in central Florida off the streets.
Volunteers told Channel 9 they started speaking to homeless people around 6 a.m. Monday and will continue for the remainder of the week.
Dyer joined about 600 volunteers Monday afternoon for the Central Florida Commission on Homeless Veteran surge count.
"We are out surveying and locating Homeless veterans. Our goal is to end homelessness among our veterans by the end of this calendar year," Dyer said.
