Private Bradley Paul, 23, suffered life-changing injuries during Afghan tour
He returned to UK but failed to overcome torment from Helmand Province
His girlfriend found him dead at their Manchester home earlier this year
Coroner said the soldier killed himself following 'silent battle' with demons
Private Bradley Paul, 23, from Manchester, was critically wounded when an IED exploded while he was on a tour of Helmand Province in 2012. He took his own life at his home in February after returning to Britain
A tormented British soldier who was badly wounded in a Taliban bombing while on duty in Afghanistan stabbed himself to death when he returned to the UK because he was haunted by the ordeal.
Private Bradley Paul, 23, from Timperley, Greater Manchester, was critically wounded when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded while he was on a tour of Helmand Province in 2012.
He suffered a severed artery in his neck, leaving him with multiple bone fractures and, although he survived following treatment back in the UK, was left with physical and psychological injuries.
In February, he was found dead by his girlfriend Jessica Newton Winter at their Manchester home with self-inflicted stab wounds to the neck.
An inquest into his death today heard that he fought a 'silent battle' to overcome his demons and left a note intended for his partner which read: 'I'm sorry'.
It emerged the soldier had kept his torment a secret from his family - telling just one friend of his intentions to kill himself, the inquest heard.
Stockport coroner John Pollard blamed the IED explosion for Private Paul's suicide, saying he was 'effectively killed by the Taliban'.
