National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics
Within those numbers are female veterans we tend to forget about but the truth is, they are now at female veterans are at the highest rate in US history. The Department of Defense released this for National Women's History Month
Female veterans make up about 16 percent of the country's veterans population, the highest rate in U.S. history.
Then why hasn't the data on the VA site been updated since 2011?
Facts and Statistics about Women Veterans
All Women Veterans
The current projected percentage of U.S. Veterans who are women is 10 percent. For the most recent projections, visit VetPOP 2011.
In FY 2009, the average age of women Veterans was 48 years, compared to 63 years for their male counterparts.
In FY 2009 and FY 2010 PTSD, hypertension, and depression were the top three diagnostic categories for women Veterans treated by VHA.
About 1 in 5 women seen in VHA respond "yes" when screened for Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
Though rates of MST are higher among women, because of the disproportionate ratio of men to women in the military there are actually only slightly fewer men seen in VA that have experienced MST than there are women.
INVISIBLE SOLDIERYou can tell her by the twinkle in her eye,At parades when the flag marches by.She served our country and she served it very wellSome have even served a tour or two in Hell. She suffered hardship and never ceased to care.It gave us strength just to know that she was there. She was a leader, you could tell by the rank she wore,But she became the invisible soldier after the war. Now, it is finally time to right a wrong.Honor our sister soldier; hear her song. It's very clear that she's a patriot to the core.Don't let her be the invisible soldier anymore.1995, Sarge Lintecum
This is the headline most folks are talking about. Suicide rate of female military veterans is called 'staggering' But this is what the report released after 11 years of research.
For women ages 18 to 29, veterans kill themselves at nearly 12 times the rate of nonveterans.Yet most female veterans come home and too many forget she served too! It happened to all generations of women after risking their lives but discovered they were not thanked for it equally. On August 8, 2015 at 9:00 am, we intend to do something about this.
There will be male veterans standing side by side with female veterans so that all of us will remember the next time you see a woman with a "Veteran" "Army" "Air Force" "Navy" "Marine" or any other military hat, DON'T ASSUME IT BELONGS TO HER HUSBAND!
