They piloted helicopters into harm's way in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, delivering infantry and special operations troops to battle and pulling out the injured. At home, they helped rescue thousands of people who were trapped in flooded neighborhoods after Hurricane Katrina.
They were:
Chief Warrant Officer 4 George Wayne Griffin Jr., 37, a Delhi native who lived in HammondChief Warrant Officer 4 George David Strother, 44, of AlexandriaStaff Sgt. Lance Bergeron, 40, of Thibodaux, the crew chiefStaff Sgt. Thomas Florich, 26, of Baton Rouge, the flight mechanic.
