If you have Combat PTSD, you are not a robot, you're human

This song comes on the radio most of the time heading into or home from work. Every time it plays I think about how much it reflects what veterans with PTSD are dealing with. If you have a hard time explaining what it is like for you, have them listen to the song. It just may help enough for them to actually see, that you are not expected to be an unfeeling, uncaring robot. You had to change to become a soldier. You had to change again to go into combat. You have to change again to live a better life back home as a veteran.

WOUNDED WARRIORS RETURN TO IRAQ
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PHOTO ESSAY

You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man
I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive
I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control
I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity

If you don't have PTSD, consider yourself lucky that you didn't feel it as much as others did. Help them change again because you are the only one coming close to understanding what it is like for them. Help them the same way they would be helping you if you needed it.
