Vets group finds therapy on the high seas
AVET plans retreat cruise as way to help find peace

Jeff Barillaro got so much out of the AVET Project Recuperation and Reintegration Retreat when he left the Army after 10 years, that he wanted to come back — this time to help.

Better known by his rap name “Soldier Hard,” Barillaro said he will join AVET’s retreat cruise next month so he can share his music and tell veterans suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder how it has helped him cope.

He said that relating his feeling and thoughts through music helped him. Sharing his thoughts with others who understood and receiving the counseling on the retreat also was helpful.

“It was awesome,” said Barillaro, who was diagnosed with PTSDsaid of the retreat he attended. “They treated us like celebrities. It was an escape to clear my mind.”
