OTSEGO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 23-year-old decorated war veteran and expectant father facing life in prison may now have a deal to keep him out of jail. Anthony McFarlane has documented traumatic brain injury and PTSD. He was honorably discharged from the Army, following an RPG attack in Afghanistan.

In January he was arrested outside of a friend's house in Otsego after stabbing a man in the stomach.

Witnesses say it was self defense in an unprovoked attack but the alleged victim says otherwise and McFarlane was charged with attempted murder. According to the circuit court clerk there was an on the record conversation between the defense attorney, the prosecutor and the judge Tuesday morning. McFarlane's attorney says the deal would have his client plead no contest to felonious assault and transfer the case to veterans court.
