SALADO — The body of a Fort Hood soldier was recovered Sunday afternoon from Stillhouse Hollow Lake, said Lt. Donnie Adams, Bell County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Christopher Kent Heinz was with a group of about nine other soldiers at River’s Bend Park off Farm-to-Market 2484, according to the sheriff’s department.
“This morning we had a group of soldiers out here swimming, and at about 12:20 p.m. they called and advised us that one (person) had gone under and they couldn’t find him,” Adams said.
He said other members with the group tried to rescue the soldier before authorities were called to the scene.
“There was a group of swimmers with him and immediately when he went under they attempted to rescue him and could not,” Adams said. “So it was a recovery for us by the time we got here.”
