Bay County, Fla.
William Busbee who served three tours in Iraq with the Army returned home at the beginning of the year. But shortly after, he was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. His case was so severe, Busbee committed suicide...with his family...just a few steps away.

"They should of helped him, he did what they wanted, why couldn't they do what he wanted. And that was to get help." Libby Busbee says.

US Army Specialist William Busbee constantly searched for help when he returned from his third tour in Iraq. His mother Libby, tells us he had a lot to deal with. "He said how do you expect someone to go over there and be a murderer, and then come back here and be normal, you can't." Libby says.

Locking up his guns before bed and even being woken up became a routine. "He would ask me, who are you. It's mom you're in Panama City. But he just stood there and gave me a stare, he looked scared." Libby says.

Aside from sustaining a traumatic brain injury, William suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. "I saw him one day sitting at his desk arranging his papers and he had this blank look on his face and he was holding his gun and kind of twirling it."

And this wouldn't be her last scare. "He texted me ‘I love you.' My daughter said he's fixin to kill himself, floor it mom, so I did." Libby added.

  1. Hey brother. It's me Jeremy.. I wish things were different than they are now. I wish I could have been there for you when everyone knows I wasn't. I was to busy being selfish in California not caring about nobody but myself... I am ashamed and not to proud of myself for that. I wish I could hug your freaking neck n go fishing or something... Anything! I miss you very much and I know your Dad my Step Dad Shane Busbee and my Mom your Step Mom Pam Busbee amongst all others really miss you dearly. We will see you again some day, let's just hope it's not to soon. Love You Brother

    1. Jeremy, I am Kathie Costos and I wanted you to know that a loss like this often causes questions that cannot be answered for those left behind. I know because no matter how much I knew then, I couldn't help my husband's nephew. Both of them served in Vietnam at the same time and both of them came back with PTSD. My husband finally listened but his nephew wouldn't give me a chance to try to help him. Whenever I read about someone else losing their battle, it is like a dagger in my soul. I know I did all I could but we cannot control those we care about. All we can do is to do the best we can with what we are able to do and based on what we know. Please know that I knew more than most people at the time because it was back in the '90s and I couldn't get through to him. What you can do for him is learn all you can so that you may be able to help someone else, including yourself because that's how you heal. I think in a way anyone I help helps me heal too,
