Florida still counting votes as of 2:15 pm today

In contrast, even Hawaii, which is five hours behind Florida, was able to call the state right after 6 p.m. local time when the polls closed.

Currently, Obama leads Romney 4,173,275 votes to 4,120,025. He is widely expected to hold that lead.

The fact that Florida can't call the state yet for either Obama or former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who has officially conceded, has put us once again in the political spotlight, and made the state the butt of national jokes.

So which is it? Did Romney concede or didn't he? Can Florida get any of this right?

President Barack Obama is claiming victory in Florida, although all of the votes haven't been counted and the state hasn't certified the election.

Obama's campaign issued a statement late Thursday afternoon saying they had won Florida. The Associated Press has not called the race said it is still too close. Obama led Romney 49.9 percent to 49.3 percent or by about 52,000 votes. Obama does not need Florida because he has won an electoral vote majority in the rest of the country.

The Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee say they are waiting for the state to finish its count, which includes thousands of provisional ballots.
