Another PTSD veteran committed suicide

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — Just days before a planned gathering of military chaplains and community ministries seeking to combat post-traumatic stress as well as soldier and veteran suicides, word came from the Clarksville Police Department that a 45-year-old retired veteran had committed suicide on Monday night.

Police were told that the man suffered from PTSD and had previously tried to commit suicide.

The only aspect of Monday’s incident that was unusual was the fact that the incident came to light at all.

Normally, both Clarksville and Fort Campbell officials are reticent to report suicides publicly, whether they involve military personnel or not. Names are rarely, if ever, released.

The primary reason that Monday’s tragic event became public knowledge was because the police tactical unit was deployed.
