The mother of a Knoxville soldier says her son died from injuries sustained after an apparent "freak accident" involving a gun.
Specialist John Hargreaves, a 2010 graduate of Karns High School, died Saturday night. He was stationed as an infantryman at the Fort Carson Army installation in Colorado.
According to his mother, Mary Hargreaves, a bullet grazed the soldier's head, and he bled to death. She says investigators found Hargreave's gun at his feet, and believe it may have discharged after becoming entangled.
The soldier was home alone at the time.
Family members say an Army investigation concluded the death was an accident.
