Slain Marine sensed insider attack was coming, dad says

Oceanside, New York (CNN) -- Deployed to a volatile outpost in southern Afghanistan where U.S. Marines routinely face a mix of skirmishes and hidden explosives, Greg Buckley Jr. sensed that an attack was imminent.

And he knew that it would come from within.

The 21-year-old Marine was posted to Garmsir in Helmand Province, where he was training local security forces as part of NATO's planned withdrawal in 2014.

It was during a static-filled phone call to his father over the summer that the Long Island native mentioned a run-in he had with an Afghan trainee while on guard duty.

  1. This is so sad, and my heart goes out to the family of this young man.
    When r we going to learn we cant put weapons in the hands of the enemy, they will turn and use them on us.
    then they will be told we r sorry we made them mad, just to sooth them over. all that makes u look weak in their eyes.
    We need to stand our ground and be strong, Up till about 4 yrs ago we were looked up to as a strong country, Now we r looked on as weak,
    This young mans murder was wrong a log with so many other service men and women. and our Ambassador with the 3 seals, and nothing was done, what is wrong with this pic. God help us.
    I dont think this will be published, cause it is the truth.
