After 9/11, More Veterans Dealing with PTSD

A growing group of people in this nation are dealing with the effects of 9/11 every day; the are the veterans of our Armed Forces. YNN's Geoff Redick reports from the Batavia Veteran's Affairs Center on those men and women, who cannot forget. Theirs is a different perspective on the events of September 11th, 2001: the perspective of our military veterans.

"It's probably the most emotional day I've ever lived," says Jim Neider, the chairman of Genesee County's Joint Council of Veterans.

"I think every veteran that day, and every person who's served, including those who were in the service at the time: I think they felt that pull, 'What can I do?'"

At Batavia's Veterans Affairs hospital on Tuesday, dozens of veterans reflected on their own feelings about 9/11. Each veteran saluted as the solemn bars of "Taps" rang out across a small auditorium. Each stood in silent attention during the solemn missing man ceremony.

"We even hear from Vietnam vets, that when 9/11 occurred, they wanted to return to service," says Dr. Lauretta Lascu with the V.A. "Some, in fact, did."

It is every veteran's task - and every American's - to find a way to deal with the trauma of September 11th, 2001. But as the years progress, there are now a vast majority of newly-minted military veterans whom must deal with post-traumatic stress disorder after 9/11.

but you only know part of the story that came after 9-11.

You wouldn't know that 9-11 caused a lot of Vietnam veterans to experience such a rush of PTSD symptoms hit them, they sought help for the first time.

In 2007 when this report came out "148,000 Vietnam Vets sought help in last 18 months" I wasn't shocked. I had been trying to get people to see this coming since 9-11 happened. It is the event that compelled me to self-publish my book. You can see the information on the videos I made that were up on YouTube and Google until I had to move them over to Great Americans. (the link is at the top of the blog for the videos listed)

This morning I posted this asking how I had started out with so many people using my work and then ended up the way I am with getting such little support, I may not be able to go on much longer. Thank you for sharing your life and wisdom in For The Love of Jack

When reporters try to tell the stories of veterans and their families living with PTSD, it would be really great if they took a look back to see what happened before they opened their eyes to it.
