An event that began as a grand opening for a new pizza restaurant in Glencoe has turned into a community-wide block party to benefit US Army Specialist Josh Wetzel.

Wetzel is currently recovering at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD after losing both legs in an IED explosion recently in Afghanistan. Wetzel is a native of Glencoe in Etowah County and his family has incurred a large amount of expense in their efforts to be with him as he recovers.

3 Style Pizza Co-Owner Dereck Washburn says that the event grew out of his shop’s desire to give back to the community.

The block party will be held at the Briarmeade Village Shopping Center in Glencoe tomorrow evening from 4pm until 9pm and will feature music from The Foggy Hollow Band as well as some fun treats for the kids. The public is invited to attend and bring lawn chairs.

During the event, 3 Style Pizza will donate $5 from every XL specialty pizza it sells to the Josh Wetzel Fund.

The donation offer will be good at all four of 3 Style’s locations in Alexandria, Leesburg, Glencoe and Geraldine.
