Clear Channel Radio, Goodwill Industries, Humana Inc., Tri-West, MetLife, Safeway (Vons) and US Bank are among 34 new companies and organizations that have joined the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, pledging to recruit, hire and promote military spouses and help them maintain portable careers.
The companies, in a wide variety of fields, join 96 other organizations, all of which have been vetted by the Defense Department.
Since the partnership was launched a year ago, the 96 companies have hired more than 22,000 military spouses, and more than 446,140 jobs have been posted on the Military Spouse Employment Partnership jobs web portal.
The companies have helped reduce the stress on mobile military spouses by identifying portable career paths, said Rob Gordon, deputy assistant secretary of defense for military community and family policy. He said the idea is to have a variety of companies with a variety of jobs available.
“We’re not just talking about jobs, we’re talking about careers,” he said.
Detailed information is not yet available on the kinds of positions and salaries represented by the 22,000 hires to date, Gordon said.
