It’s bad news/good news/bad news for the Army’s Chris Harriss who for the last two years was misdiagnosed more times than he can count and suffered longer than he cares to remember.
Harriss’ mystery illness has been the subject of many news articles as he, his wife, and a multitude of doctors grappled with his declining health.
Shaking hands, poor cognition, lack of strength and coordination were just a few of Harriss’ many symptoms.
Army doctors made one diagnosis of encephalopathy then switched to Parkinson’s disease and prescribed a host of medications to combat both, likely making him worse instead of better.
Eventually, Harriss was diagnosed with Lyme disease and powerful antibiotics were prescribed as the cure.
But Harriss’ Army doctors discontinued the medication after only a month, citing guidelines from the CDC that said “studies have shown that patients treated with prolonged courses of antibiotics do not do better than patients treated with placebo.”
