More than 500 local sailors may lose their jobs, the Obama Administration announced Monday along with its 2013 budget proposal.

Over the next five years, the Pentagon will slash the size of the military to save $50 billion.

The Pentagon is reducing the number of Navy ships and F-35 Joint Strike Fighters it will buy, and will cut six marine corps battalions.

Nearly 3,000 sailors will be let go nationwide. About 550 of them are based in Camp Pendleton. The Marines plan to drop 20,000 nationwide.
