A U.S. Army soldier and Iraq veteran from Mineral Wells died last week after he was found unresponsive in his barracks room, according to officials at Fort Hood on Monday.

Pfc. Joe Christopher Robinson, 21, died at Scott and White Hospital in Temple on Thursday, according to the Army. He was found in his barracks Wednesday and was first taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation. No other details were released by the Army.

Robinson's family has many unanswered questions. He was taking medications for back and shoulder injuries, a longtime family friend said.

"He was a happy young man," said Kerry Glenn, who has known the family for many years and spoke on behalf of his mother. "He had too much to live for and too many things to do in life for this to happen."
