OAK GROVE, Ky. - A dog that attacked and killed a six-year-old boy in southern Kentucky has been euthanized.
The small German Shepherd mauled the young boy at a home in Oak Grove on Sunday afternoon.
The boy and his family were visiting a Fort Campbell soldier's home, where the dog had been trained to help that soldier with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

We train primarily GSD's as PTSD dogs. We also support "Owner Trainers" of such dogs to try and raise the standard for owner trainers in the PTSD / PSD Community. I agreed with most posts that the ADULTS are the ones that failed both the child and the dog! Service dogs can not have any agressive training or show any signs of aggression or they are to be pulled from their service work. Service dogs are also NOT pets and should not be left unsupervised even in the yard, espically with young children! These are some of the obvious basics that we cover with our clients. If you know of a soldier or veteran using a dog without proper training, please refer them to our program. Our program is free to all our soldiers and veterans! There is NO excuse for not getting the proper training! Spread the word and maybe you can help to protect the next child and dog! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteReaders of this blog know how valuable service dogs are. This is the only report I can remember reading that was like this. I track reports around the country and this is the first report I've seen like this. Besides that, I'm a dog lover. Always have been.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Rottweiler/Hound, 11 months old puppy we adopted from Save A Life in Florida. He's such a love but as a huge puppy, it is easy to see the Rottweiler in him, so we work with him and try to get him to "know the rules" but he'd rather kiss than bite.
