A Fort Hood soldier who had recently returned from Iraq was found dead in his Tomball home on New Years’ Day.
Private First Class Kenneth McDaniel, 23, returned to Fort Hood in November 2011 as President Obama ordered troops home from Iraq, McDaniel’s mother Gloria said. The family enjoyed a Christmas holiday united with their three children, including Kenneth, his sister Kathryn, and older brother Kevin, a Sergeant at Fort Hood.
On New Years’ Day, Gloria McDaniel attended church after leaving Kenneth in a “deep sleep.” When McDaniel and her husband returned home, they found Kenneth in the garage and couldn’t get him to wake up, so they called 911.
Autopsy results are still pending, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, and no cause of death has been determined.
