A sunny apartment built with help of donations for war-wounded Pfc. Corey Kent of Cape Coral was opened Thursday for inspection.
“What’s important to us is to show the community how it has rallied around Corey,” said Trey Radel, who launched the campaign to help Kent through his nonprofit U.S. Forces Fund. “To see this is humbling.”
Kent, 23, is home on holiday leave. He greeted reporters and builders from his wheelchair in the tiled, 500-square foot, two-room apartment. The apartment meets Americans With Disabilities Act standards. The second room includes a bathroom and roll-in shower.
“It’s amazing. It blew my mind,” said Kent, recalling his first actual visit to the apartment. His parents had kept him updated with pictures. “It turned out really nice. I’m excited to get my own space.”
