Veterans Spotlight: Marine earned Purple Heart, other honors in Vietnam

FORT PIERCE — Constant patrols, search and destroy missions, ambushes and reconnaissance, that is what Bruce Hudson, 64, of Indian River Estates, thinks about when he remembers his time in the Marines in South Vietnam.
Much of the time, he said, his unit was engaged with regulars of the North Vietnam Army who didn't want his unit building a combat outpost on land they claimed.
"They were tenacious," Hudson said. "They didn't ever back down, just stand up and shoot at everyone."
