New Fort Hood chapel to aid in soldiers' spiritual health
By: Chie Saito
Fort Hood officially opened the doors to a large, new chapel complex Monday.
The 33,000 square foot worship center is part of a two-phase 'Spirit of Fort Hood Warrior and Family Chapel Campus' project.
Once completed, the more than 70,000 square foot facility will be the largest one of its kind in the Army.
The chapel complex includes a worship center that seats 600 people. Officials said it will help accommodate the growing number of soldiers and their families who are turning to faith.
According to Chaplain (Col.) Frank Jackson, the Fort Hood Garrison Chaplain, over the last two years attendance at Catholic services has gone up from 700 to 1,000 attendees every Sunday, with some level of increase seen at nearly all services held on the installation over the last several years.
