Marine Sgt. Floyd Holley of Casselberry dies in Afghanistan

Gunnery Sgt. Floyd Holley did one of the most dangerous jobs in the military.
A specialist in roadside explosives, Holley grew up in Casselberry and was planning to come home to the U.S. from Afghanistan for the birth of his first child — a daughter — in November.
On Sunday, however, Holley was killed during his third tour of duty in the Middle East, the Department of Defense announced this evening.
Holley, 36, died in Helmand province when he was hit by a blast from an improvised explosive device, the military said.

I saw the Oprah Winfrey show yesterday, which delt with the wounded military. Marine Sgt. Floyd Holley was certainly a hero, having done such dangerous work.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry for his loss. I hope that Oprah's show will awaken many Americans, who are just too busy with their own problems, to take notice of the wounded and deceased military. I know that I do all of the time,having retired from the U.S. Navy an living with my wife, here in Casselberry, FL.

ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad everyday when more and more stories are ignored by the American public. We all have our own problems but they have the same ones the rest of us to piled on top of risking their lives everyday.
Sgt.Floyd Holley was my friend. Although time had gotten away from us and we hadnt caught up in quite some time, I admired him. He had a wonderful, caring spirit that lit up any room he entered. Whether you were a football star along the field with him or the nerd noone liked, he was your friend and standing up for you. His sacrifice left behind a legacy. A first-born daughter he never got to meet and a young widowed newlywed whose strength is unparalleled. He left behind friends and family of many years that looked to him as their rock. He was the model soldier, husband,father,son, brother, uncle and friend. He left all of us with a sense of gratitude and honor just to be able to say "I knew him." His story reminds me everyday to be grateful and to embrace my loved ones as life is too short. I will forever tell his story and respect and honor him. This is a loss that hit VERY close to home for me and many. This is a sad reality and nightmare to so many families out there who have lost or may lose their "Floyd".. I will always pray and salute those who give up so much so that I still have the blessing to tuck my children in at night. I will always stand proud and be the voice for our soldiers who are protecting us. Jesus died for us to live, our soldiers die for us to be free. Honor, respect and love for both will always be taught in my home. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS... RIP Floyd and all of those who gave all.
