U.S. military's mission is changing, top commander says
After nine years of constant combat, the U.S. military is shifting focus from executing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to helping the troops who’ve fought them adjust to life outside the war zone, the nation’s top officer said Monday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told several hundred troops that he’s dedicated to making sure service members get the assistance they need to make a successful transition.

I commend Adm. Mullen for his focus now, of helping the troops on their return from the war zones.
ReplyDeleteBut as they say, "the proof is in the pudding." Time will tell how fruitful his efforts will be.
As a former wife of a Nam vet, who had no help,I'm praying for all concerned.

ReplyDeleteNone of us had help. We had to find it on our own. I think that's why so many wives of Vietnam veterans ended up being ex-wives. Had I not settled for just what I saw, I wouldn't have been able to stay with my husband all these years. I've been doing this since 1982.
That said, I really believe most of the commanders in the military want to do the right thing but I also believe too many are being advised by the wrong people. Mullen cares and so do a lot of them but they don't understand a tenth of what they need to know.
