Vietnam memorial replica makes a stop in Bakersfield

Vietnam memorial replica makes a stop in Bakersfield

It was an emotional time at Stramler Park last night as local veterans and members of the community paid final tribute to the wall that heals.

For those who visited the replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the wall lived up to its name.

With a gun salute and a ceremonial fly-over by the Kern County Fire Department's helicopter that began its service in Vietnam, local veterans and members of the community honored its final night with the replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

"There's a lot of wounds that still need to be healed," said organizer Ben Patten. "Just because they're not bleeding, they still hurt."

  1. As to the memorial I still am in a quandry as to the date the War was Officially announced as being ceased.. But currently, am experiencing an unneeded intervention by someone of your era/generationally. Her name is Susan Harros of Detroit, Michigan.
Her motives??? I was given this number by a Mid-Michigan VV this summer post-donating to his cause.

  2. November 30, 1972 - American troop withdrawal from Vietnam is completed, although there are still 16,000 Army advisors and administrators remaining to assist South Vietnam's military forces.

January 27, 1973 - The last American soldier to die in combat in Vietnam, Lt. Col. William B. Nolde, is killed.

The problem with this is that in 1975 Marines were still dying over there.

The last official battle was in May of 1975....

The Mayaguez incident involving the Khmer Rouge government in Cambodia on May 12–15, 1975, marked the last official battle of the United States (U.S.) involvement in the Vietnam War. The names of the Americans killed are the last names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, as well as those of three Marines who were left behind on the island of Koh Tang after the battle and who were subsequently executed by the Khmer Rouge while in captivity.

Not sure what you mean by unneeded intervention and I don't know who this woman is.

    Are you a recent veteran?
