Wal-Mart customer: 'I can't go back in'

(CNN) -- Victoria Arter was outraged when she heard the announcement over the Wal-Mart loudspeaker.
"Attention, Wal-Mart shoppers," she said a male voice announced. "All blacks need to leave the store."
"We waited and waited. Some people just left their carts in disgust and said they couldn't believe it," Arter told Philly.com, a CNN affiliate.
It was busy shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday at the Turnersville, New Jersey, Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Arter, a 29-year-old assistant bank manager who is black, didn't know what was going on, but she was not happy. Neither were other customers, who began dialing their cell phones and demanding answers from managers. Some were just quiet, still in shock at what they'd heard.

This incident is clearly appalling and uncalled for. I hope law enforcement finds the person who made the announcement and punishes them to the fullest extent of the law.
ReplyDeleteI would want to think it was some kind of a joke, but I doubt anyone thought it was funny. The problem is there are too many people in this country finding no problem at all with this.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely racist. Because the young could have said all fat people, or all women leave the store. Since President Obama been in office, for some reason I feel as though I am back in the sixties. Black people are concern about this type of behavior because we have been there before and know what can follow behind this type of action. If we don't nip it in the bud now, we will have copy cats. A lot of racial incidence lately have involved white male teenagers. What is going on with them? So hold on to your seat this behavior will never be ignore. Call us whiners or cry babies, I don't care, we are not going back.
