Did Alexis Hutchinson use child to avoid deployment?

It does appear that is what the military is accusing her of. If she used her own child to avoid being deployed, we should not forget the possibility it was because she had this child she did not want to be deployed and not that she used her own child as an excuse.

This case does shine a light on how much more is asked of them besides being willing to risk their lives. They leave behind their families to do what is asked of them and we need to acknowledge this as much as we acknowledge anything else. While the others follow orders to go, we need to respect the fact they do so with heavy hearts leaving their families for our sake.

(CNN) -- A single mother who chose taking care of her infant over deploying to Afghanistan has been discharged, the Army said in a statement.

When her unit deployed to Afghanistan in November, Alexis Hutchinson was missing from the plane. Her lawyer said she refused to go because there was no one to take care of her then 10-month-old son, Kamani, and she feared he would be placed in foster care.

  1. Yes! She did and should be ashamed of herself. Thank God for brave warriors like yourself. You should see what a fellow veteran has to say about her. David Bellavia (author: House to House: An Epic Memoir of War) has a new blog. www.DavidBellavia.com

  2. Hi John,
Thank you but I never served. My husband is the veteran in this house. I just do what I can because of him.
I will be sure to look at the blog you suggested later today.
