Promise kept to fallen Black Watch soldier

Barry Delaney wore the dress after making a pact with Pte Kevin Elliott

Funeral dress tribute to soldier
A man who wore a lime green dress to a soldier's funeral has said he did it to honour a pact they made together.

Barry Delaney, 25, had agreed with Pte Kevin Elliott that when one of them died, the other should wear such a dress to his funeral.

Pte Elliott, from the Black Watch, was killed while on foot patrol in the Babaji District of Helmand province in Afghanistan on 31 August.

Mr Delaney wore the dress and neon pink socks to his funeral on Tuesday.

Describing Pte Elliott as a "true hero", Mr Delaney said that he was proud to have known him.

He said that his friend would have wanted him to keep the promise they made years ago.
