The courageous service local Vietnam veteran Roberto “Bobby” Barrera has rendered to his country was recently recognized by thousands as he was named the National Commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization at the annual DAV convention held last month in Denver, Colo.

Barrera, who was wounded during the Vietnam War at the age of 21 while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, said that being named National Commander of the DAV has been a goal he has been working toward for a significant while.

The DAV is a non-profit organization comprised of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans, according to the organization’s website (www.dav.org).

While attending the DAV annual convention Aug. 22-26, Barrera was named the national commander by the organization’s nominating committee in front of more than 3,000 people in attendance.
