Fort Campbell welcomes home Vietnam vets

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Hundreds of veterans are finally getting the homecoming they never had when they returned from the Vietnam War decades ago.

At Fort Campbell on Sunday, veterans from across the country will re-enact their return from war, but this time they will be greeted by their family, friends, local Army officials and the community.

The ceremony is an official recognition of the sacrifice of the previous generation of soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen, many of whom received very little support following the war.

The event is part of the installation's annual celebration of its soldiers called Week of the Eagles.

Event planners are encouraging the veterans to wear pieces of their uniforms during the ceremony.
