POLK COUNTY - Polk County motorcycle enthusiasts will try for a mention in the Guinness World Records book today as they take part in a 12-state attempt at the world's largest motorcycle poker run.

About 700 to 1,000 residents are expected at Honda of Winter Haven on U.S. Highway 17 for the start of the event.

The run, which ends at Ridge Harley-Davidson in Lake Wales, will benefit the Fallen Firefighters Survivors Foundation, an organization that helps families of firefighters killed in the line of duty.

The event — organized by the Red Knights International Motorcycle Club — will be held at the same time in the 12 states, which may give it enough participants to set a record.
