Johnathon T. Burnette's family does not believe death was suicide and you won't either

Over too many years I've read too many ways they have committed suicide. They shoot themselves, ram cars into trees and bikes into poles, they hang, they cut themselves, they pop pills, but this is the first time I've heard about something as strange as this. I don't blame the family one bit for not believing it.

According to military police reports, Cookeville native Johnathon T. Burnette, 24, was stabbed several times all over his body and eyes and found in a pool of blood on Jan. 7.

The family said they are going to pay for an independent autopsy in hopes of getting answers.

The military's report said Burnette stabbed himself in the eyes, heart, lungs and chest, which resulted in his death. However, the Marine's family doesn't believe their son would kill himself.

"To believe or think he would do something like this is incomprehensible for me," said father, Steve Burnette. "I truly believe with all of my heart that my son was not capable of doing what they said was done to him. There's no way I feel like he could have ever done that."
