Florida Tech research could help veterans and spouses readjust from war’s trauma

War is hell.

But that hell often doesn’t stop when troops return home plagued with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is reaching epidemic proportions among Iraq-Afghanistan veterans.

And bringing with it higher rates of divorce, alcohol and drug abuse and unemployment.

However, research under way at Florida Tech could help ease the transition home for veterans and their families in one example of the quiet and impressive work taking place daily at the Melbourne campus.

The study is being done by Elizabeth Burns, a doctoral student in psychology, who has developed a survey to examine a couple’s adjustment when a spouse or romantic partner is sent to the battlefield.
