Wounded Warriors hit the surf in New Hampshire

Lenny Nichols and Aaron Buell carried Mix out of the surf.

Four years ago, a mortar blast paralyzed Mix from the waist down while he was serving in Baghdad. If it weren't for the Wounded Warriors Project, he says, "I'd be sitting at home depressed and just withering away."

Look at the joy on his face!

Local surfers and members of the American Legion Post 35 in Hampton congratulated Mix after a successful run on the waves.

The Wounded Warriors Project brought a group of disabled veterans to North Beach in Hampton, N.H., Friday morning for surfing lessons.

Mark Mix of Warsaw, Ohio, got some help from lifeguards Chris Giuca and Nick Africano as local volunteer Aaron Buell of Hampton watched.
