Bid for inquiry into soldier’s death
Aug 9 2008 by Matt Aplin, South Wales Echo
THE father of a Welsh Territorial Army soldier killed in Iraq five years ago has begun a legal battle for a full investigation into his son’s death.
Anthony Pritchard’s 35-year-old son, Corporal Dewi Pritchard, was killed in Basra on August 23, 2003, when his unarmoured civilian vehicle was ambushed by gunmen.
He claims that father-of-two Cpl Pritchard, who was serving with the Royal Military Police, was sent out on a “dangerous mission with inadequate equipment and preparation”.
The 35-year-old, of Brackla, died alongside fellow Royal Military Policemen Major Matthew Titchener, 32, and Warrant Officer Colin Wall, 34.
The men were taking part in an operation to transport assault rifles further north to Al Amariyah, near Baghdad.
