The Clearfield County Veterans Affairs Office has had a "banner year," Domenick Kurtz, director, said at Tuesday's meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners.
According to Mr. Kurtz, Clearfield County veterans received $541,323 through compensation and pension awards processed through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This is up substantially from 2006-07 when county veterans received a total of $152,767 in 2005-06 and $94,674 in 2004-05.
Mr. Kurtz credited the staff of the county veterans affairs office for the dramatic increase in benefits going to the county's veterans. According to Mr. Kurtz, veterans benefits can be very complex and often they need help in "connecting the dots" in getting the benefits that are due them.
