Airline helps grieving parents
August 21, 2008
FRUITLAND PARK - John Gladis praised Southwest Airlines officials for their kindness as his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Charlie Foster, coped with the tragic death of their 3-year-old son, Zachary.
The boy died Aug. 9 after a speeding car careened into the grandparents' front lawn and hit him. Zachary had been playing with a toy car in the yard at the home on Twin Palms Road and County Road 466A in the Fruitland Park area.
In an e-mail to the Orlando Sentinel, the grandfather said the airline graciously moved the grieving parents and their daughter, Brooklyn, from the back to the front of the plane on their flight home to California.
The family had been visiting John and Marlene Gladis, who moved to Central Florida a little more than two years ago to care for two other grandchildren, twin daughters of their son.
