Man who stormed City Hall in custody
Staff Report
A DeLand man angry his car was booted after he failed to pay more than $300 in traffic fines stormed into DeLand City Hall and threatened to kill city employees, police said Friday.
David Robert Robbins, 56, left after his tirade and went to a nearby restaurant, officials said. But police tracked him down after the Thursday incident and took him into custody for a mental evaluation.
He told police he hadn't taken his medication, "felt he was on edge" and believed he was a danger to himself, a police report states.
According to the report, a witness at the restaurant told police she heard the man talking on his cell phone to someone saying, "Christine, come and get me now or I am going to get my gun and start shooting.
